National Status for
the Party : After
the assessment of the performance
of various political parties
in the Parliamentary Elections,
the Election Commission of
India conferred the National
status to our party. This is
the first instance in the history
of our country of a new party
contesting the national elections
for the first time after its
formation getting the status
of National Party that too
within a few months after its
formation as in the case of
NCP.
NCP in Parliament : NCP
was allotted an office for
the Party in Parliament House
by the Speaker on 22nd December
1999.
First Extended Working
Committee Meeting : The
first meeting of the extended
Working Committee of the Party
was held at Parliament House
Annexe, New Delhi. Over and
above, the members of the Working
Committee, the Presidents of
State units, the Presidents
of frontal organisations, party
observers in various states,
members of parliament and leaders
of party Legislature parties
in the states attended the
session. The review of the
organisational progress was
made and steps to strensthen
the organisation were also
discussed.
National
Relief Committee : In
view of the cyclone and flood
in Orissa and the consequent
sufferings of the people there,
NCP constituted a National
Relief Committee under the
chairmanship of Shri Chhagan
Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister
of Maharashtra of which the
Convenor is Shri Praful Patel
with following members :

Five truckload of clothes, blankets, and some household utensils were sent
to Orissa and distributed among the affected people. Party President Shri Sharad
Pawar also visited the flood affected areas.
Assembly Elections : Our Party contested the Assembly Elections of
the following states as detailed hereunder:

Out of above four from Manipur and one from Haryana got elected to the Assembly
and many came in the second place. The poll percentage in Manipur was 11.34.
Membership Drive : In
order to intensify the membership
drive, Shri T. P. Peethambaran
Master, General Secretary was
given charge of membership
campaign and given charge of
organisational elections of
the party.
NCP
member in Rajya Sabha : Shri
Praful Patel was elected to
the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra
and he became the first NCP
member in Rajya Sabha.
FRONTAL
ORGANISATIONS:
1. Nationalist Youth Congress : The Nationalist Youth Congress National
Executive Council has been formed with Shri Jitendra Awhad as its President.
They have appointed State NYC Committees in many states.
2. Nationalist Mahila Consress : The Nationalist Mahil Consress
has been constituted with Smt. Veena Nayyar as its President. NMC Committees
have been formed in a few states.
3. Nationalist Student Congress : The Nationalist Student
Consress has been formed with Shri Rajeev Kumar Jha as its President. NSC
Committees are being formed in most of the states. NSC has also contested
Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election twice and secured impressive
percentage of votes.
4. Nationalist
Seva Dal : Nationalist
Seva Dal has been formed
with Shri Shamim Qurraishi,
Ex-MLA as its Chairman.
State commitees have
been formed in various
states and efforts are
on to constitute committees
in rest of the states.
5. Nationalist
Minority Department : The
Minorities Department
of NCP has been formed
with Shri Salamat Ullah
as its Chairman. They
have started organising
minority cells in states
also.
6. Nationalist
Entrepreneur Cell : An
Entrepreneur Cell has
been formed with Shri
Ramesh Gupta as its Convenor.
State level Entrepreneurs
Cells have been formed
in some states.
7. Nationalist
Kisan Cell : A
Kisan Cell of NCP has
recently been formed
with Chaudhary Ved Pal
as its Chairman. Efforts
are on to constitute
Kisan Organisations in
different states.
8. Nationalist
NRI Overseas Cell : The
NRI Overseas Cell of
NCP was constituted under
the Presidentship of
Shri Hardip Singh.
9. Trade Union
Cell : A Trade
Union Cell has also been
formed with Shri T. P.
Peethambaran Master as
its Chairman. A meeting
of the Trade Union Representatives
of the Party had been
called and its has been
decided to organise a
Central Trade Union under
the leadership of the
Party. A preparatory
Committee for organising
the Central Trade Union
has been formed with
Shri T. P. Peethambaran
Master as Chairman and
Shri S.P. Rai as Convenor.
It has also been decided
to launch the Central
Trade Union in December
2000 in Dhanbad.
10. Membership
Campaign Committee : A
membership Campaign Committee
was formed at the National
level under the Convenorship
of
Shri Ramesh Asrawal.
Membership campaign Committee
in various states was
also formed to intensify
the enrolment of members
in the party.
Party organisational
set-up : Party orsnisational
network has been established
in all the states except Tripura,
West Bengal and the Union Territories
of Daman Diu and Lakshdweep.
Though a President has been
appointed at Pondicherry, no
territorial commiittee is yet
organised there. Similarly,
the state committee in Orissa
has not been functioning properly.
In Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh,
the state committees have identical
problems of functioning. Most
of the State units have completed
the organizational network
down to the Block level and
are functioning well.

The Foundation Day
Celebration : The
foundation day of the Party
was celebrated all over the
country on 10th June 2000.
The day was celebrated in Delhi
by holding convention at Talkatora
Indoor Stadium, where more
than 12,000 party workers participated
from different states.
Prof. D. P. Tripathi, Secretary NCP, moved a condolence resolution in connection
with the sudden expiry of NCP President's eldest brother, Dr. Dinkarrao
Govindrao Pawar, popularly known as Appasaheb, who dedicated his life for
upliftment of farmers and landless labourers of Baramati village through
the introduction of scientific agricultural and irrigation technology,
expired on 16th April 2000 following the cardiac arrest
After

the Convention. In the absence
of Shri P. A. Sangma, who was
abroad, a message sent by him
was read out at the Convention
by Shri Zafar Akhtar, Secretary
NCP.
A
resolution moved by Shri T. P.
Peethambaran Master, General
Secretary, on the anti-poor policies
of the BJP Government and calling
for a nationwide agitation against
those anti-poor and anti-farmer
policies as well as the mounting
atrocities on minorities and
efforts of the government to
open up the gates of administration
to communal fascist forces like
RSS was unanimously passed by
the Convention. This resolution
was seconded by Shri Praful Patel.
As
a follow up of passing the resolution,
a nationwide agitation was started
throughout the country. The following
were the demands raised in the
agitation.
1 - Withdraw the hike in prices of essential commodities distributed through
PDS outlets.
2- Restore subsidy on fertilizers and protect the farming community.
3- Protect our national industries.
4- Stop disinvesting profitable public undertakings.
5- Preserve employment opportunities and ensure the right to work
6- Stop atrocities on minorities.
Programme of agitation : These were
1)
Protest week from 9th August
2000 to 14th August 2000 organising
protest rallies.
2) Padyatra/Yatra on vehicles to propagate the issues raised in the agitation
3) Torch light Jathas
4) Public meetings explaining the issues and
5) Mass Dharnas at district or block levels.
