Subject: General elections, 1999-Review of poll performance under the provisions
of Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.
Sir,
I am directed to say that the Commission has carried out a review of the poll
performance of political parties at the general elections held in August- October,
1999, under 'the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment)
Order, 1968. On such review, it is seen that Nationalist Congress Party, a
recognised State political party in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has become
eligible for recognition as a National party.
2.
Accordingly, the Commission has
decided to grant recognition
to the
said Nationalist Congress Party as a National party. The symbol "Clock" has
been allotted to the Nationalist Congress party as its reserved symbol, as
requested in the party's letter dated 15th November, 1999.
